Welcome to the TD Canadian Children’s Book Week Site

Join us in celebrating TD Canadian Children's Book Week and bring the magic of books and reading to children all across Canada!

TD Canadian Children's Book Week is the single most important national event celebrating Canadian children's books and the importance of reading. Close to 35,000 children, teens and adults participate in activities held in every province and territory across the country. Hundreds of schools, public libraries, bookstores and community centres host events as part of this major literary festival.

This site contains valuable information about the history of Book Week; the plans for this year’s touring program; the costs involved in hosting a reading; information about the touring authors, illustrators and storytellers and the presentations they do; contact information for the Book Week Coordinators who are organizing the tours in your province or territory; and information about our popular Book Week materials which can be used to celebrate Canadian books in the classroom, library or at home.

TD Canadian Children's Book Week is organized by the Canadian Children's Book Centre, in partnership with the Storytellers of Canada/Conteurs du Canada, and is made possible through the generous support of our sponsors and funders.

Capture the Magic of Reading during TD Canadian Children’s Book Week

Annual event encourages Canadians to Read a Book, Share a Story in 2012

Toronto, ON – April 26, 2012 – To celebrate the joy of reading and the importance of sharing stories, TD Canadian Children’s Book Week will kick off May 5 with 116 free public readings held in public libraries, community centres, bookstores and local schools across Canada. More than 35,000 children are expected to participate during the annual event which is organized by The Canadian Children’s Book Centre and runs from May 5 to May 12, 2012.

The 2012 TD Canadian Children’s Book Week’s theme “Read a Book, Share a Story” promotes reading as a classic pleasure-filled pastime and encourages sharing a good book or story with friends and family. The theme also celebrates librarians and the important role they play in the lives of adults and children alike, sharing books and creating lifelong readers. In fact, this year marks the 100th anniversary of Lillian H. Smith, a Canadian, becoming the first trained children’s librarian in the British Empire.

TD Book Week Blog: Andrea Spalding is ready to hit the road!

Countdown to NWT.

I am so excited, and honoured, to be going on the Canadian Children's Book Centre Tour to some tiny places in the Territories that have never had a visiting author in their community. Hopping from tiny community to tiny community in tiny planes. Out of cell phone and email reach. Taking food with us to places where there are no restaurants or motels (I'm promised buffalo lasagna). It is going to be like no tour I have done before. I always say reading opens windows into others worlds; this time my writing has opening a door to somewhere I have always wanted to visit.

Can't wait for the adventure to begin.
